The successful completion of the Vascular Operating Theatre project at Gloucestershire Royal Hospital resulted in a perfectly positioned steel framework designed to support cutting-edge medical equipment, including Siemens Pheno Live imaging technology. These modernised facilities are anticipated to significantly enhance patient care and treatment outcomes. Feedback from the client has highlighted the project’s outstanding contribution to the hospital’s infrastructure.
This six-month project, led by Beard, was undertaken to remodel the hospital’s Vascular Operating Theatres. The key challenge involved installing a heavy steel structure within a live hospital environment—demanding precision and careful planning. The team employed advanced methodologies and tools, including the largest mobile crane in the UK and laser-cut materials, to achieve a levelling accuracy within 0.5 mm. The design stage involved extensive collaboration with various stakeholders, while off-site fabrication minimised disruption. Installation was efficiently completed over just four days, ensuring minimal impact on hospital operations.
